होली (Sanskrit), Holi, or Holli, also called the Festival of Colors, is a spring festival celebrated by Hindus, Buddhists, Sikhs and others. It is primarily observed in India, Nepal, Srilanka,[1] and countries with large Indic diaspora populations, such as Suriname, Guyana, South Africa, Trinidad, UK, USA, Mauritius, and Fiji. In West Bengal of India it is known as Dolyatra (Doul Jatra) and in Odisha it is known as "Dola Jatra" or Basanta-Utsav ("spring festival"). The most celebrated Holi is that of the Braj region, in locations connected to the god Krishna: Mathura, Vrindavan, Nandagaon, and Barsana. These places have become tourist destinations during the festive season of Holi, which lasts here to up to sixteen days [2].

The main day, Holi, also known as Dhuli Vandana in Sanskrit, also Dhulheti, Dhulandi or Dhulendi, is celebrated by people throwing coloured powder and coloured water at each other. Bonfires are lit the day before, also known as Holika Dahan (burning of Holika) or Chhoti Holi (little Holi). The bonfires are lit in memory of the miraculous escape that young Prahlad accomplished when Demoness Holika, sister of Hiranyakashipu, carried him into the fire. Holika was burnt but Prahlad, a staunch devotee of god Vishnu, escaped without any injuries due to his unshakable devotion. Holika Dahan is referred to as Kama Dahanam in South India.

Holi is celebrated at the end of the winter season on the last full moon day of the lunar month Phalguna (February/March), (Phalgun Purnima), which usually falls in the later part of February or March. In 2009, Holi (Dhulandi) was on March 11 and Holika Dahan was on March 10. In 2010, Holi is on March 01 and Holika Dahan was on February 28.

Rabi' al-awwal (ربيع الأول) is the third month in the Islamic calendar. During this month, muslims around the world celebrate Mawlid - the birthday of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. Sunni muslims (except a minority muslims belonging to Deobandi/Wahabi faiths) believe the exact date of birth of Muhammad to have been on the twelth of this month, whereas Shi'a Muslims believe him to have been born on the dawn of the seventeenth day. The name Rabī‘ al-awwal means the first [month]/beginning of spring.

Watch Live Cricket

Sri Lanka U-19, winning the toss, decided to bat first and could only accumulated 205 runs for the loss of all ten wickets in 48.2 overs.

Fernando and Vithanage were the two top scorers from Lankan side with 52 and 40 runs respectively while Hazel Wood from Australia bagged 4 wickets for 26 runs in 8.2 overs.

Replying to an easy ask, Aussies staggered throughout their innings but could successfully manage to achieve target in 48.2 overs with only two wickets in hands – thanks to two remarkable knocks.

Marsh missed out his century and was caught and bowled on 97 by Buddhika besides, another batsman Triffitt smashed quick 50 runs as major contributors from their sides to hand their team historical victory.

Pakistan and Australian Under-19 teams will meet in the final of the tournament to be played on January 30 here at Lincoln.

Thats the end of what has been a cakewalk for India as they go on to register yet another series and extend their lead at the top of the ICC Rankings for Tests. Until next time, this is the trio of Shashank, Mayank and Srivathsa signing off. Cheers!
Presentation:
Dhoni: It was a difficult task to get 10 wickets in the 2nd innings because there was nothing in the pitch for the bowlers. Zaheer's spell last evening was remarkable and it did the trick for us. Batsmen had it easy on this wicket because of the slow turn so it was important that we batted well in the 1st innings. Zaheer is a master at reverse swing now so that was the reason why we didn't take the new ball. Ojha chipped in with a beauty to take the wicket of Ashraful. As a side, we could have still done a lot better in this series but hopefully the injuries take a back seat and all the players are fit before the SA series. It is a home series so there will be pressure, we are just looking forward to going out there and putting our best foot forward.
Zaheer: The pitch was getting slower and lower so it was important to stick to the basics on this kind of a wicket. I still need to work on my fitness but happy with the way things are shaping up for me. Yesterday's spell towards the end was extremely crucial. We are all now looking forward to going back home and play the Proteas.
Zaheer Khan is the Man of the Match as well as the Man of the series, for picking up 15 wickets in the series, ending up as the highest wicket taker in the series.
Shakib: I thought 1 hour of bad batting in both innings led to our downfall. There was nothing wrong with the pitch, we just need to introspect as to where we are going wrong and fightback. The form of Mahmudullah, Rahim and Tamim has been a big plus in this series and hopefully we would do well in New Zealand.
Sachin Tendulkar collects a special memento for becoming the 1st cricketer to cross 13,000 runs in Tests.
What a turnaround we've had today and it was Zaheer who was responsible. Things looked hunky dory for Bangladesh until Zaheer struck late on day 3 to remove Siddique and Iqbal in successive overs. Ashraful and Shahadat got through the first hour unscathed but once Shahadat fell, Bangladesh collapsed like a house on fire. The spinners chipped in with 3 wickets before Zaheer finished it all off. With his devastating spell with the old ball, he bowled a 3-wicket maiden before getting rid of the last man after lunch to finish with his first 10-wicket haul. For Bangladesh, its been a familiar story. They were in a position of strength but threw it all away as they failed to capitalise, losing 7 wickets for 22 runs this morning to hand India an easy win.
India win by 10 wickets and win the test series 2-0

There's an interview with the inventor on the sales page, where he saysthere were three problems with other sleeping bags which led him to invent his own:

   1. You can't get the things you need without leaving your sleeping bag.
   2. You can't stand up and run away when attacked by a bear.
   3. You can't turn around in your sleep, can't bend the wall of the sleeping bag, and they were constrictive.

I have a question though, about number two. Bears can run over 30 mph, does the sleeping bag have bionic speed capabilites? If so, that's cool. Or maybe, like the old addage says, "you don't have to outrun the bear, just the guy in the regular sleeping bag."
What'd You Think?

Squeegees ready for 3-month Burj window-clean
Updated at: 1315 PST, Tuesday, January 05, 2010
DUBAI: An Australian company has described the epic task of cleaning the windows of the world's biggest skyscraper in Dubai, using squeegees, buckets -- and 7.3 million US dollars of high-tech equipment.

Dale Harding, general manager of Cox Gomyl, said the firm designed and installed the Burj Khalifa's unique window-cleaning carousels which were in action ahead of its official opening this week.

Twelve machines weighing 13 tonnes carry up to 36 cleaners, who use ordinary soapy water to wash down the Burj's 24,830 reflective windows in a process that takes three months, top to bottom.

"It's the same as an average shop front cleaner would use -- there's nothing complex about it at all," he said.

The cleaners stand on the specially designed machines, which emerge from cavities in the skyscraper and track along rails skirting its curved towers.

He said the company had been working overtime to get the 828-metre (2,717-foot) building gleaming for Monday's extravagant opening ceremony.

"It's an enormous challenge. The architects had some fairly high expectations," Harding said.

"It's an iconic building with high exposure. They wanted it as clean as possible, particularly for the opening. There have been some fairly tight deadlines over the past few months."

He said the Burj, which towers over the Dubai desert, has 120,000 square metres of glass (1,292,500 square feet) and 45,000 square metres of aluminium and stainless steel panels.

"It's an incredible construction. People are focusing on the height of the building but the sheer size of it, the footprint, is huge. It's really 10-15 conventional buildings," Harding said.

Islam is a monotheistic religion based on revelations received by the Prophet Muhammad in the 7th century, which were later recorded in the Qur'an (Koran), Islam's sacred text. The faith spread rapidly and today Islam is the second largest religion in the world. The Arabic word islam means "submission," reflecting the religion's central tenet of submitting to the will of God. Islamic practices are defined by the Five Pillars of Islam: faith, prayer, fasting, pilgrimage and alms. Follow a link below to learn more about Islam.
